Yash Raj Films is here yet again to (as the tagline goes) steal your homes and hearts with Bunty aur Babli starring Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee and Aishwarya Rai (in a guest appearance). Shaad Ali, who has already given Bollywood a big hit, Saathiya, decided to try his luck once again as a director with Bunty aur Babli. The soundtracks are composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and lyrics by Gulzar. So, let’s find out if the songs are full of miraculous flavors or lack freshness.
The album opens with Dhadak Dhadak. It’s hard to describe this song as anything but lively. Udit Narayan, Sunidhi Chauhan and Nihira Joshi offer their best to this song. The song starts off with Amitji’s voice with a quote about people in the world, “Do tarah ke log hote hain, ek jo sari zindagi ek hi kaam karte rehte hain, aur doosre jo ek hi zindagi main saare kaam kar dete hain.” He goes furthur with introducing Bunti aur Babli. Although, the starting tune sounds a lot like the ‘Dhin Dhinak Dhin Dhin Dhin ta’ in ‘Goriya re’ from the movie Aaina, it doesn’t seem like ‘S-E-L’ copied the piece. This chorus is carried out throughout the song in the background. The energy level in the voices as well as the music is tremendous. Gulzar’s lyrics are out of ordinary. Simple yet trendy!
Chup Chup ke follows Dhadak Dhadak. This song is a bit slower that the one before it but the beats are a plus. The credit for the incredible singing goes to Sonu Nigam & Mahalaxmi Iyer. Unique instruments are compiled to give the song a different traditional and western sound. This song is created as a love song for Bunty and Babli hence, the slowness is justifiable. The more you listen to the song, the more you will get accustomed to it. The lyrics are somewhat predictable. Peaceful and very sweet!
Nach Baliye is a fast, upbeat song. It’s ideal for parties and clubs. The chorus is noticeable throughout the song and gets a bit annoying after a few minutes through the song. Shankar Mahadevan, Sowmya Raoh & Loy Mendonsa give their hundred percent. The instruments and music sound traditional and it feels like you have heard something similar before but the song definitely has the capability of getting one on his/her feet or hands up in the air. Gulzar has written awesome lyrics, a combination of Punjabi, Hindi and English words. A racy number!
Next comes the title track, Bunty aur Babli. It starts out with a peculiar tune and right from the beginning we know that the song has something good to offer. The music is very original and has a good feel to it. Listeners will also have an opportunity to hear a different style of Sukhwinder Singh. Shankar Mahadevan, Jaspinder Narula and Siddharth Mahadevan follow the pitch well. The singers work in full co-ordination to give an excellent performance. The lyrics simply rock, giving the listeners an idea of what the character of Bunty and Babli are like. Exceptionally original!
B N B reminds one of U n I from Hum Tum, to some extent. The song adds a spark to the soundtrack of the film. It’s a big asset to the music. Blazee penned down the lyrics and sang the song along with Shankar Mahadevan and Loy Mendonsa. It’s beautifully sung, in respect to the beats and music. Listening to the lyrics is more important for this song because Blazee tells bit of the story of Bunty aur Babli. The chorus stands out and is very melodious. The song is sure to leave you singing for a while. Stuck in your head!
Kajra Re is a qawali. One can imagine the picturization to be a dance in a hall like most mujras or qawalis. There is a significant difference in the style that Alisha Chinoi sings this song. The change is a positive one! She sings magnificently. Javed Ali and Shankar Mahadevan accompany Alisha. The lyrics are great. Even though the song is full of life and sounds nice to the ears, it seems like it’s extended unnecessarily. Bar a few inadequacies, the song is worth listening to. Not bad at all!
Not sure about homes but the album is bound to steal loads of hearts! It’s a must to listen to this album at least once. So, Grab your copy now here.

It’s been awhile since you’ve done an entry. It’s very boring right now. I just checked out S.I.’s myspace. There are more people from school using it than I thought. There are also a lot of older and very disturbing people too. I think they’ve never heard of discretion or subtlety :). It was very unpleasant. Most of them need to get a life and stop posting jibberish. If you visit her myspace, refrain from looking at any of the others. Bye! P.S. Write something.
