In response to this article.
The writer is talking about how the IIFA 2005 event was merely for the purpose of showing a bollywood show on television. I disagree. Yes, there was a cricket match that was hosted, which has nothing to do with bollywood (except for the “players” involved) but Cricket and Bollywood are the two main sources of entertainment in India and if they (IIFA) came up with the idea of combining the two most entertaining sources together, what’s the harm in that? Infact, it should be applauded because it’s something different, something that the other usual awards like Filmfare or Zee Cine don’t do. I, for one, loved the idea!
The writer says, “Cinema took a backseat.” No it didn’t. Cinema was present in each and every aspect of the whole event, which lasted a whole weekend. The presence of cinema was always there in the form of stars in each event, movies in all the premieres and songs to which the stars danced. What I want to know is, how else could cinema have taken a front seat?
I haven’t seen the event myself but from what I have heard of the event, it sounds wonderful and not to mention, different. I still wish I got to go…

I came here looking for aishwarya’s still from bunty aur babli, what I found was a nice commentary on the changing face of indian cinema. What do you think about some insider’s (including Mr. Senior Bacchan’s) aversion to calling the industry ‘bollywood’?
