Virgin America - the way to fly

Posted in Life, Reviews by Aaina on the January 25th, 2008

I had a wonderful opportunity of traveling in an airline that’s, well let’s just say different from the other leading airlines. I am talking about Sir Richard Branson’s well-thought out creation, Virgin America. So, what’s so different about Virgin America? Well, for one, the airplanes have a unique interior to them. It doesn’t feel like you’re entering into a regular airplane. The mood lighting throughout the airplane and the elegant seats add to the sleek interior.

Now, I am somewhat of a scaredy-cat when it comes to flying long distances [long distance for me = more than 1 hour]. I flew from San Francisco to New York and the total flight time was five hours and 25 minutes. The idea of going high up in the clouds in a big, heavy machine with so many other people inside it makes me, worried, to say the least. I wasn’t comfortable about flying this time either but since I had no other option, I decided to stay calm and focus on the positive. Much to my surprise, the take-off, actual flying time and landing were very smooth. The entertainment that Virgin America provides through the RED in-flight entertainment system added to the smooth flight as it kept me distracted and entertained. You can listen to songs from your favorite artists, watch music videos, play games, chat with friends or people on other seats and if that’s not enough, you can even enjoy 18 different channels. VA also lets you order food and drinks from the convenience of your seat. Simply choose what you’d like to order, swipe your credit card and you’re good to go. And the best part of that is that the food isn’t all that expensive. Talking about inexpensive, the fares are nominal and service is excellent, you’re sure to get a warm smile from the crew.

All in all, I had an awesome experience both ways and I’d love to fly with VA again, whatever chance I get.

A letter to the world out there: love, Aaina.

Hello

All right, sometimes you might feel lonely, sad, lost, and mad at everyone, you might even feel like there’s no one that likes you and that you’re all by yourself. I just want you to know that your next thought should be that there is at least one person that really, really cares about you and always wants you to be happy. Now, I am not an expert in life and I can’t tell you how to live your life but what I can tell you is that you are never and I repeat, never alone. Although it might feel like it, there is always someone who wants the best for you in whatever you do, be it a relative, friend, co-worker, a kid in the kindergarten class you teach, the old lady who lives next door or your pet. Just remember, you are not alone and there is a whole world out there waiting to be explored. So many cool things to do that can make you feel good. Think of yourself as the luckiest person on Earth for having what you do have and not worrying about what you don’t, because it doesn’t matter and if it does matter to you, set goals for yourself to have those things one day. I know it’s not easy but being content and satisfied with yourself can lead you to the best thing in the world, inner peace. So, let the “bad” days pass by and welcome and cherish the good days that are ahead of you. This life is for you to live, don’t let little things ruin it.

Thanks for reading and have a happy life!

General Motors vs. Microsoft!

Posted in Life by Aaina on the June 25th, 2007

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated “if GM had kept up with the technology like the computer industry has,we would all be driving $2500.00 cars that got 100 miles to the gallon.”

In response to Bill’s comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:

  1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.
  2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.
  3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull over to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.
  4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.
  5. Only one person at a time could use the car unless you bought “CarNT”, but then you would have to buy more seats.
  6. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would only run on five percent of the roads.
  7. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single “General Protection Fault” warning light.
  8. New seats would force everyone to have the same sized butt.
  9. The airbag system would ask “are you sure?” before deploying.
  10. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
  11. GM would require all car buyers to also purchase a deluxe set of Rand McNally road maps (Now a GM subsidiary), even though they neither need nor want them. Attempting to delete this option would immediately cause the cars performance to diminish by 50% or more. Moreover, GM would become a target for investigation by the Justice Dept.
  12. Every time GM introduced a new car, car buyers would have to learn to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.
  13. You’d have to press the “Start” button to turn the engine off.

LOL, now THAT’s a witty response!

Smart Driver!

Posted in Life by Aaina on the January 20th, 2007

A driver is pulled over by a policeman. The police man approaches the driver’s door.

“Is there a problem Officer?”

The policeman says, “Sir, you were speeding. Can I see your licence please?”

The driver responds, “I’d give it to you but I don’t have one.”

“You don’t have one?”

The man responds, “I lost it four times for drink driving.”

The policeman is shocked. “I see. Can I see your vehicle registration papers please?”

“I’m sorry, I can’t do that.”

The policeman says, “Why not?”

“I stole this car.”

The officer says, “Stole it?”

The man says, “Yes, and I killed the owner.”

At this point the officer is getting stressed. “You what!?”

“She’s in the boot if you want to see.”

The Officer looks at the man and slowly backs away to his car and calls for back up. Within minutes, five police cars show up, surrounding the car. A senior officer slowly approaches the car, clasping his half drawn gun.

The senior officer says “Sir, could you step out of your vehicle please!”

The man steps out of his vehicle. “Is there a problem Officer?”

The officer responds, “Yes, could you please open the boot of your car please?”

The man opens the boot, revealing nothing but an empty boot.

The officer says, “Is this your car sir?”

The man says “Yes,” and hands over the registration papers.

The officer, understandably, is quite stunned.

“One of my officers claims that you do not have a driving licence.”  The man digs in his pocket revealing a wallet and hands it to the officer.

The officer opens the wallet and examines the licence. He looks quite puzzled. “Thank you sir, one of my officers told me you didn’t have a licence, stole this car, and murdered the owner.”

The man replies, “I bet you the lying bastard told you I was speeding, too!”

LOL :P

Academy of Art: Here I come!

Posted in College, Life by Aaina on the January 17th, 2007

Only 12 more days until I start going to the Academy of Art University situated in San Francisco. I have been waiting to go to the Academy for about 6 months now and I don’t think I can wait any longer. I can’t wait to start classes because I’ve heard a lot about AAU and the quality of classes there. The Academy is a private university and offers 12 different degrees. I have opted to go for a degree in Graphic Design. AAU promises its students that they will have an excellent portfolio by the time they graduate, so it’s easier for them to get the job they want.

I am very enthusiastic about going to the Academy of Art and will keep the blog updated on my experiences there.

You can visit AAU’s Graphic Design page here.
