Smart Driver!
A driver is pulled over by a policeman. The police man approaches the driver’s door.
“Is there a problem Officer?”
The policeman says, “Sir, you were speeding. Can I see your licence please?”
The driver responds, “I’d give it to you but I don’t have one.”
“You don’t have one?”
The man responds, “I lost it four times for drink driving.”
The policeman is shocked. “I see. Can I see your vehicle registration papers please?”
“I’m sorry, I can’t do that.”
The policeman says, “Why not?”
“I stole this car.”
The officer says, “Stole it?”
The man says, “Yes, and I killed the owner.”
At this point the officer is getting stressed. “You what!?”
“She’s in the boot if you want to see.”
The Officer looks at the man and slowly backs away to his car and calls for back up. Within minutes, five police cars show up, surrounding the car. A senior officer slowly approaches the car, clasping his half drawn gun.
The senior officer says “Sir, could you step out of your vehicle please!”
The man steps out of his vehicle. “Is there a problem Officer?”
The officer responds, “Yes, could you please open the boot of your car please?”
The man opens the boot, revealing nothing but an empty boot.
The officer says, “Is this your car sir?”
The man says “Yes,” and hands over the registration papers.
The officer, understandably, is quite stunned.
“One of my officers claims that you do not have a driving licence.” The man digs in his pocket revealing a wallet and hands it to the officer.
The officer opens the wallet and examines the licence. He looks quite puzzled. “Thank you sir, one of my officers told me you didn’t have a licence, stole this car, and murdered the owner.”
The man replies, “I bet you the lying bastard told you I was speeding, too!”

Academy of Art: Here I come!

Only 12 more days until I start going to the Academy of Art University situated in San Francisco. I have been waiting to go to the Academy for about 6 months now and I don’t think I can wait any longer. I can’t wait to start classes because I’ve heard a lot about AAU and the quality of classes there. The Academy is a private university and offers 12 different degrees. I have opted to go for a degree in Graphic Design. AAU promises its students that they will have an excellent portfolio by the time they graduate, so it’s easier for them to get the job they want.
I am very enthusiastic about going to the Academy of Art and will keep the blog updated on my experiences there.
You can visit AAU’s Graphic Design page here.
Adobe Creative Suite 2.3 launched

Adobe’s creative suite’s next version, 2.3, was launched a while ago. This package will include Adobe’s Universal Acrobat 8 professional software apart from Photoshop CS3, Indesign CS3, Illustrator CS3, Dreamweaver 8, Golive, Adobe Bridge and Adobe Stock Photos. A few days ago, I downloaded a trial version of Photoshop CS3 and found it to be about the same as Photoshop CS2 but better. It’s more user friendly and easier to use. I also signed up for a free trial CD of Adobe Creative Suite 2.3 on Adobe’s website and the CD is due to arrive in mail in 2-3 weeks. I’ll surely post a review on the other applications as soon as I get my CD.
But the bad news is that a few of months ago, I bought Creative Suite 2 because I was in desperate need of it. Had I researched a little more, I would’ve waited for the release of the next version. It’s going to cost me about $160 to upgrade my software to the newer version. I am not too happy about that, but I guess that’s how it goes.
Logo watch: Imthere

This is the logo of a newly launched (still in preview) mobile social network that lets members connect through events like parties, concerts, etc.
I think this logo works well with the idea of its product being a social network. It’s a very clean, simple and to-the-point logo. Through the use of arrows, it portrays a message of “coming together.” The image gives the viewer an idea of a lot of people from many places are gathering at one place, which is good because a social network does bring people together from different locations. The colors on the arrows, orange, green, blue and purple are significant to the fact that people from many different races and colors can/should participate in this social network. I also like the way “Imthere” is placed in the logo. It doesn’t look out of place, rather it fits in very nicely with the mark above it. The font used is casual yet classy. The tagline seems to fit in the logo without any problem, although, the two TM marks do bother me a little.
All in all, I think it’s a nicely done logo that gets the meaning across with ease.
Design is omnipresent

Hey everyone. I am back and all set to keep this blog going!
Design is omnipresent. It could be a corporate mark on your coffee mug, a box of your favorite chocolate, a cover of a magazine in your living room or the logo of a nearby fast food place. You name it, design is everywhere, in everything!
I developed an interest in graphic design when I was sixteen years old. I was an active participant of discussions at various forums related to the Indian Film Industry and it was at these forums where I got an inspiration to design something, something of my own. I saw that other forum members designed signatures for themselves and others and I thought that those were the best designs in the world, when, of course, I hadn’t seen many of the better designs. I, too, wanted to join the bandwagon and design signatures of my own to display under each post that I made in the forum. Just yesterday, I came across one of my very initial “designs” and let me tell you, I felt awful when I saw it. Just awful, not embarrassed. The design, needless to say, was a bad one, lacking any contrast, symmetry or appeal. Nonetheless, it was one of my first designs and I am proud of it.
Over these three years, I like to believe that my designs have improved in a way that they don’t reflect amateur skills, rather somewhat developed skills. I started learning about Adobe Photoshop and began to experiment on it to see what I could do with it in terms of designing. I didn’t read any books, magazines or tutorials, but observed a lot of designs on the forums that I visited. Those weren’t the best designs to observe but that seemed like the best option at the time. I have learned a lot of Photoshop over these years but there’s a lot more to be learned. After I was done experimenting with Photoshop, I jumped to Adobe Indesign, which is a great software for designing print layouts of any kind. I took a class in spring of 2006 which was solely based on teaching the basics of Indesign. I designed three projects in that class and I loved every minute of it. Just recently, I have started looking into Adobe Illustrator, another fine product from Adobe, which helps designers create logos and allows them to create graphics for print, video and the web. I haven’t looked at Illustrator in depth but from what I have experienced so far, all I have to say is that a designer can do great things with this software and I intend to learn more about it.
Over these couple of years I have discovered my love for logo design. I like creating logos for different websites as a practice. I also like to observe and critique logos that I come across in everyday life. This is a part of what I will be doing on this blog, among other things. I hope you’ll enjoy my blog posts and give your input on them.
